FAQs
When is the best time to go?
The season runs from May 1st thru Labor Day weekend in September. Water flows vary throughout this time frame. End of May-Middle of June flows tend to be at their highest. July is the most popular month to go rafting on the Arkansas. Flows start dropping off by early August, but most years the river is still runnable until Labor Day.
Can children go?
Yes. But each section has an age restriction.
For the Fun Float, children have to be at least 6 years old.
For Browns Canyon, Children need to be 10, unless flows are over 2,500 cfs, then they need to be 13+.
For Numbers, children need to be at least 16. There are no exceptions made.
Do I have to have experience?
It most cases NO.
But experience does help when rafting the Numbers section.
What should I bring?
A Water Bottle, Sunscreen, Sunglasses with a strap (a strap is a very good idea, especially for prescription glasses,) and dry clothes to change into after the trip.
What should I wear?
NO COTTON- Cotton clothes will stay wet and keep you cold we recommend quick-dry materials like poly-pro and fleece.
Swimsuit or board shorts- If you are wearing a wetsuit you’ll want a non-cotton layer to wear underneath.
Warm layer- We recommend bringing a fleece layer in case you get cold your guide can hold onto it in their dry-bag.
Proper footwear- If you prefer to wear your own footwear it needs to be secure on your feet no flip-flops or Crocs. Chacos or an old pair of tennis shoes work great. We will have neoprene booties to rent for a fee.
Are there restrooms?
There are restrooms at our office, at the put in, and at the take outs. But there are no restrooms once you start on the river.
What are the different rapids classifications?
Rapids are classified on a Class I-VI scale. Class I being the easiest and Class VI being unrunnable.
Depending on which trip you go on, you will experience Class I-II (Fun Float), Class III (Browns Canyon,) or Class IV (Numbers.) Obviously the higher the class the more difficult the trip.
We do have age restrictions based on the trip difficulty.
Depending on river flows the age restrictions may change or the trips may be cancelled.
Class I - Moving water with a few riffles and small waves.
Class II - Easy rapids with smaller waves and clear channels.
Class III - Rapids with high irregular waves, narrow passages, precise maneuvering.
Class IV - Long, difficult rapids, big waves, constricted passages, complex maneuvering.
